How to prevent emotional overwhelm?
We might be aware that the dreadful emotions that come across our heads are just temporary… but sometimes they manipulate us in ways we could not explain, and at the end of the day they conquer us. So how can we get over them?
Whether we like it or not, bad emotions are part of our lives; and at-times, they manipulate us as well as our health. It all depends on their degree of badness. And it’s critical to cope with the feelings that accompany one’s daily life’s ups and downs.
Here are the steps that you could follow to deal with negative emotions
- Control the way you allocate or fix meanings to your feelings instead of controlling your emotions. Or else, you will get overwhelmed or under control.
- Discuss your problem with a wise person. (Eg : a parent who can give you some fruitful advice.)
- Physical contact and social relationships are good for one’s health!
- Write anything amiss on a paper and then burn it into pieces. ( It is important to write down all the thoughts that go with our emotions so they don’t drive us crazy. Plus writing down your emotions will give you deeper analysis of your life’s situations.)
- Be sure that every problem has a solution, and that it is not the end of the world. (Do not magnify your problems making mountains out of molehills. Redefine your problem.)
- Convince yourself that you can overcome all the challenges in your life no matter how big they are, and turn them into strength and success.
When life puts you in tough situations, do not say why me? Say try me!
- Meditae, meditation releases the intensity of stress, anger, fear and any other negative emotion. Meditation is to the mind what sports is to the body.
- And last but not least :
Because art can give you a feeling of joy and can also hamper your mood. So many studies have revealed that art supports well being and develops the quality of people’s life.
If you are not into art, you can listen to music!
NB : If nothing seems to work, and you still feel down, worried or anxious… then something might be wrong and you probably should seek an expert to help you move in a positive way and healthy manner.
Remember the pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow! and a problem might lead you to something good afterwards.
There is a quote by the Jazz legend Duke Ellington, and it goes :
“A problem is a chance for you to do your best.”
