How could the US presidential elections affect climate change?

The US Republican President has recently declared that he won. The truth is, he is far from winning since the results are not out. Could climate change be his or Biden’s voters’ top issues? Who can retain the white house?

Experts say:

“Who occupies the White House for the next four years could play a critical role in the fight against dangerous climate change”

According to a liable source, voters who support Joe Biden who happens to be a democratic candidate to the US, or the Republican President Donald trump ones have different opinions about the climate change issue. The same source highlights that about 68 per cent of Biden voters say climate change could affect their vote as opposed to only 11 per cent of the Republican President supporters who admit that they do not view it as a major threat.

Climate change is “a serious subject” as far as President Trump is concerned. He claims that he wants his country to have the “cleanest water on the planet”, in fact, “the cleanest everywhere”.

However, scientists who study climate change say that the re-election of Donald Trump could make it « impossible » to keep global temperatures in check.

Joe Biden on the other hand has put forward $2 trillion plan to fight climate change with a target of net-zero emission by 2050. This latter involves improving electric car charging station grids, transitioning to clean energy sources and climate-smart agriculture.

« I believe climate change is an existential threat to humanity. Donald Trump doesn’t even think it exists. It’s that simple, folks. »

as stated by Joe Biden.

If we dig a little bit deeper into this matter, the USA has -historically- put more greenhouse gases into the environment than any other country. Which makes this very country the second largest contributor to the climate crisis after China.

Climate Home News said that “Biden is heading to the White House with a promise to overturn four years of US retreat on climate action”. It noted that : “the most ambitious climate platform ever presented by a presidential candidate”

The results of the US election will have a major impact on the environment. The US election is thereby a vote on climate change for the whole globe.
