The French football league puts an end to the hopes of Olympique Lyonnais football club
The Senat « Jean-Michel Aulas » has made an amendment to allow the season to resume. However, the LFP (league de football professionnel) immediately slammed the door in a joint press release with the Professional Leagues.
In a proposed amendment, senators seem to agree with Jean-Michel Aulas. The president of Olympique Lyonnais received a proposal from six senators, in order explicit modifications to the bill on the urgent provisions facing the Covid-19 epidemic. “The delegated sports federations and professional leagues may decide to resume professional competitions in order to complete the 2019-2020 season, if the health situation allows and after the opinion of the committee of scientists provided ».
They assert in particular that the decision of Prime Minister Edouard Philippe dated April 28 to stop the season was « premature » and « fraught with sporting and economic consequences in the long term ».
Faced with this prospect of finally being able to reverse the trend and go to the end of the 2019-2020 season, the national association of Professional Leagues -which brings together the Leagues of Basketball, Cycling, Football, Handball, Rugby and Volley– immediately declared its disapproval in a press release which leaves no room for doubt concerning their common position.
The professional leagues point out that the decisions to stop the 2019-2020 sports seasons were taken into account, following the decisions of the State and in a logic of preservation of the collective interests at stake.
At a time when French sport faces exceptional circumstances, this amendment would be a source of confusion which would further destabilize sports bodies. On the contrary, we believe that it is important to join forces to prepare in the best possible conditions for the resumption of the 2020-2021 season and sustainably support the clubs in the management of an unprecedented crisis « , writes the Association des Ligues .
